Washington State had a head start on much of the country as an early follower of the Colorado Naloxone Project successes.

Now, two years into the passage of State Bill 5195, hospitals are mandated to create programs to identify at-risk individuals and directly dispense naloxone from the EDs.

The efforts, particularly of the WA Health Care Authority, HCA, and the WA State Hospital Association, WSHA, eventually solved the first big hurdle, “How to have Hospitals reimbursed.”

The Washington Naloxone Project continues to partner with HCA and WSHA to get naloxone in the hands of all Washington at-risk populations.
